Our Story

Diversey Tennis Center, managed and operated by the The Lincoln Park Tennis Association, is Chicago’s only public CLAY COURT facility. Situated at the easternmost foot of Diversey Parkway in Lincoln Park, we’re just steps away from the Lakefront trail, Diversey Harbor and the Diversey Driving Range. A “hidden gem in the city,” our idyllic setting and expertly maintained Har-Tru clay courts are open mid-May to mid-October. We welcome players of all skill levels!

We are proud to welcome neighbors, commuters, and weekend players to experience the unique joy of playing on clay.

Ultimately, clay helps players learn to create, adapt, attack, defend, and reset after long points, fostering a more versatile and resilient game.

Build Your Endurance

The slower surface results in extended rallies that naturally build superior physical and mental stamina.

All About the Angle

Creating wide angles and opening the court is essential for success on this slower, more forgiving surface.

The Slide

Mastering the controlled slide allows for efficient movement and better recovery during high-intensity points.

Patience, The Toughest Virtue

Success on clay requires the discipline to wait for the right moment to strike rather than rushing the net.

Hit Behind Your Opponent

Exploit your opponent’s momentum by hitting back to where they just came from on the slippery clay surface.

The physical satisfaction of clay comes from playing long, engaging matches without over-stressing the knees, back, and lower extremities. Emotionally, the surface rewards the thinking, creativity, and tactical responsiveness required in every point.

Playing on clay is both physically and emotionally satisfying, supporting long-term joint health while developing deep tactical thinking.
